"Girl Like This" contains twelve eclectic songs written and performed by Laura Roppé. In writing the lyrics for each song, Laura drew on her perspective as a woman, mother, observer of people, and good time girl. In writing the music for each song, Laura drew on her love of all genres of music, catchy melodies and pay-off choruses. The album is the realization of a life-long dream for Laura, and an affirmation of her newfound mission to live each day to its fullest.
"Can't Take It Back," "Come To Me," and "Float Away" (winner, Americana single of the year at the Los Angeles Music Awards 2009) are poignant reflections on some of life's most heartfelt experiences. In "Little Daughter," Laura sings a melodic lullaby to her daughters to tell them everything they will need to know in life when she is gone. But Laura's also a girl who likes to have a good ole' time, as reflected in anthems such as "Girl Like This," "Mama Needs a Girls Night Out" and "Free." "Crazy About You and Me" gives voice to the woman scorned, while "Sing a Love Song" and "Fly Fly Fly" are melodic ditties about making happiness a simple and conscious choice. "You Don't Ask" is an anthem about the power of female assertiveness and self direction. "Ooh La La" pokes loving fun at roles and perception in relationships.
The album is rich with interesting chord progressions, toe-tapping beats, catchy melodies that you cannot get out of your head, and unexpected and clever lyrics. More than anything, the album reflects Laura's unapologetic perspective on the experience of being a modern woman, in all its glory, and her newfound determination to live every single day to its fullest. With this album, and through her example, she wants to inspire her listeners to make a decision to GO FOR IT TODAY.
Laura lives in San Diego, California, with her husband and two daughters, and Buster the Boston Terrier II. Currently, she is recording her second album, while continuing to perform and promote "Girl Like This" in the US and UK. One of the songs from her upcoming second album, "Butterfly Girl," just won a prestigious international songwriting competition in the folk category.
